Project 366 / 334 - Good, evil and wonder
The media do a terrible job. They mis-inform us by painting a picture of the world in disarray, fuelled by conflict, hatred and evil when the reality is so different. Sure the world has corners of darkness but it's far easier to find the light.
Whenever we travel we always meet kind, happy and good people and this trip has been no different. I sometimes wonder if it's the English that have the problem yet when we talk to foreigners they have nothing but good things to say about us English folk and it makes you realise that as usual it's the minority that's spoiling and tarnishing the reputation of the majority.
There's a lot of good in this world. No one is born evil, no one starts off being nasty, they turn that way, shaped by their surroundings and pressurised by their environment in a fight for survival. The problem we face is that the negative minority are far louder than the positive majority who are supported by the general media.
We are a cautious race, suspicious by nature, always looking and wondering what other peoples agenda is. We're like this because that's how we've been brought up and how maybe one or two experiences have affected us. We've become protected, defensive and judgemental. It's sad as life doesn't have to be like this, but it is.
We visited the Grand Canyon by helicopter today - it was a breathtaking experience topping off an incredible 4 day trip. Whilst we're sure to pay for our excesses in energy tokens over the next few days, it's been more than worth it. The world is an incredible place, filled with enough wonders to last 100 lifetimes. It makes you realise that of all the planets in the universe ours is the most beautiful which just goes to show that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
